The Person i am today
Many people don’t realize that I wasn’t the same person I was
five or six years ago. I live in a pretty bad neighborhood surrounded by gangs
and drug dealers. My elementary school wasn’t the best either. I was friends
with a lot of people; however, some of those people have not made the best
decisions in their lives. My close friend at the time only lived a couple of
houses away from me. We hung out every day after school. I thought we were
going to go to the same high school together and basically become best friends.
Little did I know that my mom would end up transferring me from my elementary
school to a charter school. I haven’t seen my friend since I transferred. A couple
of years later, I found him on Facebook. I messaged him, and I asked him how
things have been. What he told me surprised me. He said that he had been to a juvenile
detention center a couple of times and could possibly go to jail. If I didn’t
transfer schools, I could’ve possibly ended up in the same position that he
was. I haven’t talked to him in a while, so I really don’t know what he has
been up to, but from the statuses that he has posted, it seems that he’s trying
his best to provide for his mom. If I were to stay in the same elementary
school and go to my neighborhood high school, I wouldn’t have nearly as good as
an education that I have now. Today, I am surrounded by people who care about
me and want me to succeed in the future. My best friend, my brothers, my Muchin
family, and my family all support me and want me to have a good future. If it
wasn’t for their positivity, I don’t think I would be the person I am today.
