Interview with Mauro Garza
Q: Do you think the people you surround yourself with have
an impact on your life? Why or why not?
A: "Yes they do because they are people I trust and care for. Also, they help me when I am in need as I do the same for them."
Q: Do your friends motivate you or bring you down and how does that make you feel?
A: "My friends motivate me to better myself and help me when I need it the most, yet guide me in the correct direction. I feel that it has helped me to be a better person."
Q: If you were to go to your neighborhood high school, do you think you would have turned out different than who you are right now? Why?
A: "I think I would have a different turn out because my neighborhood high school is not the best, and since it is close to my house, I wouldn’t take it as serious because it doesn’t have strict rules like Muchin. "
Q: Have people ever told you that you weren’t good enough, or you’re never going to make it far in life?
A: "Yeah. People have told me that before, but I don’t pay attention to it because it is my life, and I can do anything I want to do."
Q: How do you think you would have turned out if you were to surround yourself with the wrong group of people?
A: "I would not be where I am now and would not be doing anything with my life."
Q: Have you ever dropped a friend or someone in your life because they have either been a bad influence or always had a negative mindset?
A: "I have not dropped someone but tried to help them to do better with their life. It is more important to help than to let go and have them have a bad life."
Q: What kind of people should others surround themselves with?
A: "Positive, Inspirational, determined, and open minded."
Q: Is positivity always a good thing?
A: "Yes. It helps people get a better perspective on life."

Analysis
After interviewing Mauro, a very close friend and an
advisory brother, I realized that he felt proud to say that he is happy to be
the person that he is today. He said that the only reason why he is the person
is today is because of his friends. His friends help him stay on track, have a
positive mindset, and motivate him to do his best. He said this with
confidence, and that is something to be very proud of. I asked him about whether
or not he would be the person he is today if he were to go to his neighborhood
high school. He knew for a fact that he would be a different person. It wasn’t
hard enough to reply to this question because he knows how his neighborhood
high school is and how he wouldn’t be doing anything with his life if he were
to go there. His neighborhood high school isn’t like Muchin, and that’s another
reason why he is the person he is today. One thing Mauro said was, “It is more
important to help than to let go and have them have a bad life.” He is the type
of person to help someone get rid of the negative thoughts in their heads and
think positive, for positivity, “helps people get a better perspective on life.”
This interview helped me figure out what I need to do in order to make this
project successful. I need to see whether or not positivity and negativity play
a big role in a person’s life and how that person became to be a positive or
negative person. Was it because of their friends that they are who they are, or
another event in their lives?
